The coffee maker
The dark matter of my mornings.
I wake up every morning still sleepy and numb. My arms are weak, my legs are not much better than them, and my back struggles to keep me on my feet. In this state, I try to loosen the upper half of the Italian style  coffee maker that we have at home. Sometimes I have to push it against one of my legs while I use both my hands to open it . Then the routine. I mentally start to  schedule my day as I fill the lower half with water and pick up the can of "Colombian blend".
Check the online news and the social media notifications while I wait for the train to arrive at "Hot stove Station".
The sound of the steam starts to fill the kitchen along with the smell of freshly brewed coffee, which takes over the whole apartment. My love finally wakes up. She is still almost asleep. -Hi my love- She says. My day starts at its best moment

The drawer

On the top the socks. Maybe in the other one right below you have all the underwear. I would never check because that belongs to your intimacy. Every time someone invites me home, I never dare to open a drawer, even in the kitchen when I´m asked to help with dinner and perhaps I need to grab the forks or look for the pepper, I fill embarrassed as if I was entering into a  private zone.
You can know a lot of stuff from people just for looking at their drawers. There´s people who have their houses perfectly clean, in complete order, but if you open a drawer you might find a complete mess. I´m not one of them. My mess is all over the place, even in my drawers. Also, drawers can be used to conceal private objects from indiscreet visitors. Everybody has something to hide, even the most transparent people. Honest people are admired and respected, but even the most righteous man might have a messy drawer somewhere.

The swimming pool

The summers, the heat on my back, the smell and taste of chlorine. All day long playing with my childhood friends, rehearsing crazy ways to dive into the water. Challenges to keep the breath under the surface. Red eyes after keeping them open while swimming. The fresh breeze chills with the towel on. Tearing grass apart with my hand, while looking at that  pretty girl from the neighborhood. The card games. We used to play until the heat would drag us again to the water. swimming, playing, going out of the water, cards, heat...Over and over again until the sun goes down and the heat does so.
Then, coming back home with the hair tangled up and the skin dry as cardboard. Tired of all day playing and running and laughing. Walking back home for more than two kilometers, but still having lots of fun on the way. Go to bed and sleep like a baby.

The airport.

Austin Texas, 5:00 a.m. At the airport, sitting on a chair among some other people. Watching rushed travelers with a bag in their hands and a cup of coffee in the other. Cell phones, cell phones everywhere. Everyone looking at their digital lives, hoping to find something different than the stuff they had ten minutes ago. Sleepy faces contrast with the others running towards the gates about to close. It´s five in the morning but this place looks  like a crowded street in a big city. I'm in a big space with huge windows on both sides. In the outside,  I can see the operators working on those big metallic birds. Hoses pumping fuel into the planes, little vehicles pulling carts full of bags, many others that I don´t even know what they are for.
There are a lot of lights,  billboards, screens, signs, even background music which fades among the small talk of the fellow passengers and the flight announcements. That one is mine, I´m about to board...
